Would you like to know God personally? Have questions about what it takes to begin a relationship with God? The following steps will explain how you can personally begin a relationship with God, right now, through Jesus Christ…

1. Acknowledge that you are a sinner.

The Bible says that all of us have broken God’s commandments, that “There is none righteous, no not one.” (Romans 3:10) and “all have sinned”(Romans 3:23).
We were created to have fellowship with God; but, because of our stubborn self-will, we chose to go our own independent way, and fellowship with God was broken. This self-will, characterized by an attitude of active rebellion or passive indifference, is evidence of what the Bible calls sin.
Because God is holy, and people are sinful, there’s a separation between us and God. We can try to reach God and abundant life through our own efforts, such as a good life, philosophy, or religion, but we will inevitably fail. The only way to solve this problem is…

2. Believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you.

The Bible says, “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.” (Romans 10:9). Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
Jesus died on the cross in our place, to pay for our sins, and rose from the dead to pay for our sins. If you believe this to be true, you have been saved from your sins. The next step is…

3. Change direction. Turn away from your sinful way of life.

The Bible says, “God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent (the word repent means to change direction, i.e. away from your sins), because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness” (Acts 17:30-31). You can have your sins forgiven and begin experiencing a relationship with God today. Pray something like this…

“Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.”

If you’ve prayed that prayer, and meant it, you’ve began a relationship with God.

We encourage you to begin reading the bible. Try starting out with the Gospel of John.
